MODERN ENGLISH is an
updated remake of the 1938 American screwball romantic
comedy MERRILY WE LIVE directed by Norman Z. McLeod, that
received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Supporting
Actress for Billie Burke.
In this clever remake, a morally and emotionally bankrupt gossip columnist, Wade
Rawlins, is sent on a vacation to the countryside by his editor. Life, however,
has other plans for him, and through a series of hilarious mishaps, he winds
up on the doorstep of the famously reclusive Lord and Lady Kilburn.
Mistaking
him for a charity case, the eccentric family takes him in. Seeing the possibility
for an exclusive, Wade stays on and finds himself falling head over heels in
love with the Kilburn’s fiery eldest daughter, Gerry, and thus faced with
a major dilemma -- to write or not to write.

ONE LUCKY
ELEPHANT follows the poignant journey of circus producer David
Balding as he discovers just how difficult it is to find a
nurturing and permanent home for Flora, the 18-year-old African
elephant that he raised as an infant and made the star of his
European style, one-ring circus.
Knowing Flora will outlive him, and that Flora needs to be
with other elephants, David embarks on an emotional trek across
America, then to Africa and back, conferring with experts,
researching zoos, preserves, and sanctuaries, and in the process
learns about the mostly dismal situation for elephants living
in captivity and the issues facing them in the wild.
ONE LUCKY ELEPHANT raises critical issues about the future
of elephants in captivity and the precarious situation facing
their counterparts in the wild, and how these issues have impacted
the life of one very lucky elephant.

GOOD CHILDREN is based on the best-selling novel, John Dollar
by Marianne Wiggins,
that the New York Times
called "a powerful story that not only pulls you through
to its final pages, but also propels you back to the beginning
again, where you find you want to follow her decent into hell
a second time."
Set in Burma after the First World War, this dark drama follows
the classic story line of Lord of the Flies, as eight British
schoolgirls become marooned on an obscure island with the Captain
of their expedition. It is a tragic tale of love, betrayal,
survival and innocence lost. |
